Miķelis Putrāms is a Latvian architect, certified passive house designer, and co-founder of the architectural bureau MADE arhitekti. Having studied architecture at the Riga Technical University, Putrāms has gained international work experience in Danish architectural bureaus PLOT and BIG, among others, and has lectured on sustainable construction and architecture for many years in Latvia as well as elsewhere in Europe.
In the works of MADE arhitekti, architectural quality is closely linked to how buildings actually affect people and the environment – with a focus on materials with low environmental impact, energy efficiency, a healthy indoor climate, and sustainable construction practices. The bureau has won the Latvian Architecture Award Grand Prix three times: for the Saldus School of Music and Art in 2012, for the Dailes Theatre Forecourt in 2023, and for the Salaspils wooden kindergarten in 2025.
The works of MADE arhitekti have been repeatedly nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award. Their Pitraga Pietura project reached the finals of the New European Bauhaus Prize and also received recognition at the Gubbio Prize.
Putrāms regularly speaks at universities and architectural forums across Europe and has participated in the juries of several architectural competitions.
His work convincingly demonstrates how wood, energy efficiency, and environmental awareness can be not limitations, but the starting point for strong and contemporary architecture.
