Julian Zotter is an Austrian structural engineer whose work focuses on resource-efficient structures, timber-hybrid construction and the development of adaptable, low-carbon building systems. He studied civil engineering, specialising in structural engineering, at Graz University of Technology, where he subsequently worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Steel Structures, Timber Engineering and Shell Structures.
Zotter received his doctorate in engineering from Graz University of Technology in 2008. His doctoral research examined the automated modelling and structural analysis of complex metal silo structures, reflecting a longstanding interest in computational methods and efficient structural systems.
From 2006 to 2022, Zotter worked at the Vienna engineering practice RWT plus ZT GmbH, holding positions in structural design, project management and departmental leadership. He later established Zotter Consult and, in 2024, co-founded ZOTTER LITSCHAUER ZT GmbH with Alexander Litschauer. He is a state-authorised and sworn civil engineer in Austria and a court-certified expert in structural engineering.
His current work addresses multi-storey timber-hybrid structures, modular and prefabricated building systems, the transformation of existing buildings and the principles of circular construction. His approach brings together structural performance, material efficiency and environmental impact, with particular attention to disassembly, component reuse and the considered combination of timber, steel and concrete.
