Laur Lõvi is a civil engineer and the founder and board member of the engineering and architectural firm Makespace. He graduated with an integrated master's degree in civil engineering from the Estonian University of Life Sciences in 2009 and has been designing timber and glulam structures for nearly two decades.
Laur has deliberately focused on wood – a material from which, in his own words, one can actually build something with their own hands. In 2020, the Estonian Association of Civil Engineers honored him with the title of Civil Engineer of the Year.
Founded in 2015, Makespace has today grown into an engineering and architectural firm. Wood is at the heart of the office, but it is not the limit: hybrid, steel, and reinforced concrete structures are also designed. The company's focus is on developing systems and work processes that enhance the skills of specialists and make the journey from sketch to production faster and more efficient.
Laur has designed several outstanding load-bearing timber structures, many of which have received recognition in the Wooden Building of the Year competition. His work includes the Saue parish administration building, the Saku sports hall and the Tondiraba ice arena, several state high schools, and the newly completed TARU.
At the conference, Laur will speak about the design of the structural engineering for the Võsu School, which won the main prize for the Estonian Wooden Building of the Year 2025.
